The Cleveland Browns will be heading to Missouri to lock horns with the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome this Sunday, October 25 in week seven NFL action. The Rams are back at home after a couple of contests on the road and then a bye last weekend. They’re currently in second place in the NFC West with a 2-3 record. Meanwhile, the Browns lost a heartbreaker at home last week as the undefeated Denver Broncos edged them 26-23 in overtime. Cleveland sits in third place in the AFC North at 2-4 on the season.

Cleveland came close to handing the Broncos their first loss of the season in week six, but fell just short. They took a 20-16 lead with about eight minutes to go in the game before falling in overtime. Backup quarterback Josh McCown threw a couple of touchdown passes as well as a pair of interceptions while racking up 213 yards. However, the Cleveland offensive line let him down as he was sacked on four occasions. McCown’s in for another tough task this weekend as the Rams’ pass-rush unit is quite dangerous with an NFL third-best 19 sacks in five games.

The Browns’ tight-end Gary Barnidge had just three receptions last week, but two of them ended up in touchdowns. He’s now scored five touchdowns on the campaign and has received for 415 yards. Fans should expect to see McCown looking to pass to Barnidge whenever he can, especially in the red zone. On the defensive side of their game, Cleveland needs to do better with their pass rush. They allowed Peyton Manning to attempt 48 passes and failed to sack him once. The Rams’ running game averages 113.8 yards per game, which ranks them 13th in the NFL, so the Browns’ front seven will need to be alert. Cleveland enters the game at 4-1 against the spread in their past five road trips.
The Rams last game took place at Lambeau Field in Green Bay during week five action and they came out on the wrong end of a 24-10 decision. The offense struggled and quarterback Nick Foles threw for a touchdown and just 141 yards. To make matters worse, he was intercepted four times and sacked three times. However, they should be enough to exploit the Cleveland defense as it ranks 30th in the league for giving up an average of 407.3 yards per outing. The Browns are also 18th-best in passing defense at 257.5 against and the worst in the league against the rush by conceding 149.8 yards against each contest.
The Rams’ first-year running back Todd Gurley will be hard for Cleveland to cover since he’s been in top form in the past two games. Gurley rushed for 146 yards against the Arizona Cardinals in Week four and then ran for 159 yards against the Packers. Gurley may be given the ball by Foles against Cleveland this week while he has the momentum with him. The Browns’ backfield could be troublesome though as they could also rely on a ground attack to take the pressure off of McCown. Up to now, the St. Louis rush defense has given up 113.4 yards a game and will have to be aware of the likes of Robert Turbin, Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson.
