The Green Bay Packers will clash with the Minnesota Vikings in a huge NFC North showdown this Sunday, November 22 at the TCF Bank Stadium in Minnesota. The Packers have been struggling lately and this has enabled Minnesota to leapfrog them into first place in the division due to their five straight wins. This is the first of two big contests between the clubs this season and the Vikings enter it with a record of 7-2 while Green Bay is 6-3. Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the Packers squad have their work cut out for them on Sunday if they hope to climb the standings. Green Bay was beaten 18-16 at home by the Detroit Lions last week while the Vikings upended the Oakland Raiders 30-14 on the west coast.

The Packers were beaten by Detroit at home for the first time since back in 1991 last week and their 16 points was the lowest home total since November of 2013. Rodgers threw two touchdown passes and gained 333 yards by completing 35 of his 61 pass attempts. Top running back Eddie Lacy was on the shelf with a groin problem and replacement James Starks carried the ball 15 times for just 42 yards. The Packers have averaged just 18 points in their past three outings and the offense needs to improve quickly if they hope to have a chance in Minnesota.

To make matters worse for the Packers, the defense hasn’t been up to par either and recently conceded 37 points to Carolina. Fans are hoping Rodgers can lead their squad out of the doldrums against Minnesota. History could be on their side this weekend since Green Bay has gone 9-1-1 against the Vikings in their past 11 encounters. However, they’ll need to improve drastically over last week’s disappointing performance against the Lions.
The Vikings are certainly on a roll right now with five straight victories and an 8-0 record against the spread since losing their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Running back Adrian Peterson ran for a season-best 203 yards in Oakland and had an 80-yard touchdown. The defense was also solid and Minnesota now allows a league-low of just 17.1 points against per game on average. The Vikings combination of a fine running game and stingy defense will make things hard for Green Bay this week. The pass rush will attempt to pressure Rodgers and the Green Bay quarterback may be without left tackle David Bakhtiari to help him out due to a knee injury.

Peterson has been hot with the ball and has averaged 143 yards on the ground in the Vikings past three contests. He’ll be facing a Green Bay squad which conceded 290 rushing yards during their recent losses to Denver and Carolina. The Packers will need to keep Peterson in check and pick up the offense to pull out a win in Minnesota, but it’s not likely to happen this weekend.
